RMI Titanium Company (NYSE; RTI) announced today that it has been
designated the sole supplier of titanium mill products for the
Air Force F-22 fighter being built by Lockheed Martin and Boeing.
The new contract, which begins this year, will continue through
the life of the program with approximately 339 aircraft forecast
to be produced by the year 2012. The F-22 Raptor is widely regarded
as the most advanced tactical fighter in the world.
RMI estimates a potential
contract value of $340,000,000. Among the alloys supplied will
be an RMI-developed high-strength alloy designated 6-22-22.
RMI was selected because
of its expertise in flat-rolled products, its ability to
provide a full range of aerospace titanium materials, and the
manufacturing capability to provide complex alloys such as 6-22-22.
