RMI TITANIUM COMPANY ANNOUNCES FIRST QUARTER RESULTS

Niles, Ohio - RMI Titanium Company (NYSE; RTI) released results today for the first quarter 1998.

The Company reported a first quarter net income of $15.1 million, $0.73 per share, on sales of $89.0 million. The resuts for the comparable 1997 period were a net income of $10.9 million, $0.54 per share, on sales of $73.7 million.

First quarter results reflect the strength of the market for RMI's titanium products. First quarter 1998 mill product shipments totaled 4.9 million pounds for the quarter at an average price of $15.06 per pound. First quarter 1997 mill product shipments amounted to 4.8 million pounds at an average price of $13.75 per pound.

The Company anticipates that, due to a three-week outage at its rolling mill in April, second quarter 1998 shipments of plate and sheet will be reduced by approximately 400,000 pounds impacting second quarter earnings. These shipments are expected to be made up in the third and fourth quarters and, therefore, are not expected to have an impact on 1998 annual earnings.
