RTI INTERNATIONAL AND SIERRA ALLOYS END DISCUSSIONS  

Niles, Ohio – RTI International Metals, Inc.(NYSE; RTI) announced today that RTI and Sierra Alloys Company, Inc., of Irwindale, California, have been unable to reach a mutually satisfactory definitive agreement for purchase of Sierra by RTI. The two companies had announced the signing of a letter of intent on July 6, 1998.

RTI International Metals, Inc., headquartered in Niles, Ohio, through its various subsidiaries, manufactures and distributes titanium and specialty metal mill products, extruded shapes, and engineered systems for energy-related markets. The Company’s products are used for aerospace, industrial and consumer applications.
