RMI TITANIUM ANNOUNCES WORK STOPPAGE
Niles, Ohio -- RMI Titanium Company announced today that 504 of its production and clerical employees, represented by Local 2155 of the United Steelworkers of America, have commenced a work stoppage at its Niles, Ohio, plant after negotiations failed to reach agreement on a new contract. The previous contract expired at midnight September 30, 1998. The Company had offered increases in wages, pensions, benefits and profit sharing as well as job security for current workers in exchange for greater flexibility in work rules and compensation of future employees. Reduced operations are being manned by salaried personnel.
In making the announcement, David Paull, Director-Human Resources, said, "We regret that the union has decided to take this action. The Company is hopeful that continuing discussions will result in a competitive contract, permitting the resumption of full operations and minimizing the impact on our customers."
