RTI INTERNATIONAL METALS AND SP-700 TITANIUM ALLOY

MAKING RAPID GAINS IN SPORTING GOODS MARKET

Niles, Ohio – RTI International Metals, Inc., (NYSE: RTI) through its largest subsidiary, RMI Titanium Company, manufactures SP-700™, a new titanium alloy developed by NKK on a full-scale basis as a face material for TaylorMade® Golf 300 Series™ drivers, which recently went on sale in the golfing industry.

NKK’s SP-700 titanium alloy represents a significant improvement over conventional Ti-6Al-4V alloy in terms of formability, strength and heat-treatment properties. It achieves reliable, stable performance, allowing use in various parts that require high durability and light weight. Based on its high strength combined with superior formability, demand for SP-700 titanium is expanding rapidly for such applications as golf club heads, wristwatches, mountaineering crampons and tools.

TaylorMade has chosen to widely employ the product as a face material for its 300 Series drivers. TaylorMade Golf 300 Series drivers were the most widely used drivers over a 12-week period on the 2000 U.S. PGA Tour, according to a Darrell Survey report.

Today’s larger golf club heads require thin faces and, therefore, substantially more durable face materials. SP-700 titanium provides manufacturers with excellent metal fatigue strength, which is one of the reasons for its selection by TaylorMade Golf 300 Series. NKK’s advanced alloy design and quality control technology, combined with timely delivery assurance that fully satisfy customer needs, have also been key factors in the material’s success.

Between RTI’s subsidiaries, RMI Titanium Company and RTI Europe and their Japanese partner, NKK, SP-700 titanium is being supplied to markets throughout the world.

RTI International Metals, Inc., headquartered in Niles, Ohio, through its various subsidiaries, manufactures and distributes titanium and specialty metal mill products, and extruded shapes, as well as engineered systems for energy-related markets and environmental engineering services. The Company’s products are used for aerospace, industrial, military, the golf industry, and other consumer applications.
